State Arts-In
Minnesota 4-H State Arts-In is a 22-day intensive arts experience. Youth prepare a musical to perform 3-4 times daily during the Minnesota State Fair. Each year, State Arts-In youth perform at least 35 shows to more than 12,000 audience members in the 4-H Building on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. State Arts-In is about: Performing arts including singing, dancing, acting, instrumental accompaniment, costume design, set construction and technical work. As well as leadership, goal-setting and teamwork.
This year I had the pleasure of working with 10 participants in the program to create a stage for the Arts-In performance. Their prep-week is only 6 days long and I was asked to design this stage only two days before the program started. Within these 8 days I worked with youth and professionals to design and build a stage that was cohesive with the costumes and the story of the performance, while also being in budget. All was seen at the Minnesota State Fair.
